D'APRÈS GIROLAMO CAMPAGNA
Apollo with lyre
Black patina bronze statuette.
The god is shown standing, holding a lyre in his left hand and a drape around his right arm. At his feet rests a ram.
Venice, early Renaissance work
Damage and missing
Height: 25 cm

This bronze can be compared with the Apollo with lyre in the Heylshof Museum, Worms [Kb 14 - Sw 167].
It is possible that our statuette is the upper part of a chenet, as produced by Venetian foundries in the 17th century. The statuettes crowning the andirons were modelled on works by the city's most renowned artists, such as the sculptor Girolamo Campagna, to whom this model of the Apollo Carneio is now attributed.
