A native of northern France, Charles Malle studied at the Saint-Luc-de-Tournai School of Fine Arts in Belgium, and at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et du Textile in Roubaix. From these two important schools, where he was one of the best students, the young painter developed a style inspired by Flemish landscape painting. He discovered Paris during the war, and the capital became one of his favorite themes.
He said: "I think I've always been an adolescent who marveled at life. For me, painting is not a refuge, but a way of singing all the beauties of existence, past and present. My memories are a source of wonder. They embellish my daily life when I translate them into my paintings.
