Born in Sydney, Édouard Goerg moved to Paris around 1900. A pupil of Paul Sérusier and Maurice Denis at the Académie Ranson in Paris, where he studied from 1913 to 1914, he became a major figure of French Expressionism from 1920 onwards, his work characterized by deep colors, strange compositions and social themes.
