FRANCIS BACON (1909-1992) ***1989 Lithograph Signed in pencil lower right Marked EA lower left Small yellowing in the margins and slight indentation of the paper Height 75 cm - Width 56 cm Part of a triptych entitled Respons, 89 Second version of the triptych of 1944 A self-taught visionary, Francis Bacon began developing a deeply personal style of painting in the 1940s, marked by the body in tension, the distortion of the human figure and an atmosphere of dramatic confinement. Although he followed the tradition of the portrait and the triptych, Bacon radically overturned the codes, exploring the limits of representation and the flesh. Fascinated by photography, medical images and the great masters of painting, he composes striking pictures in which man appears in all his existential fragility. Each of Bacon's works, even on paper or in his preparatory studies, vibrates with a rare intensity: they speak of anguish, desire and isolation - and confront the viewer with a truth as raw as it is poignant.
