AMICIE DE BOUTEILLER (Born 1984) L'ère du vide Wall sculpture in painted plywood and Tinéo veneer. Matte varnish. 45 cm high - 80.5 cm wide - 4 cm deep A visual artist trained at the École Boulle, Amicie de Bouteiller creates wooden wall sculptures combining marquetry, light and graphics. Inspired by the imperfection and balance of form, her work explores the boundary between raw material and contemporary composition. This work is both a work of fullness and emptiness, and of variation around a single form. It questions the way in which negative space sculpts the gaze as much as the material itself. The central panel is the work's initial piece. Here, the artist has worked with solid shapes that are deliberately uneven and imperfect, but also and above all with the voids between them. It is the shape of the void that gives the form a different relief from itself. On the other two panels, each shape is a variation, a distortion of the initial shapes of the central panel: the angles have been changed, the arches revisited. The choice of wood species is essential - tinéo is very present: its orange color flamed with black patterns adds extra depth to the whole.
