[Benedict XIII - PAPAL BULLETIN] Handwritten bull of Pope Benedict XIII on vellum (790 x 510 mm). Large floral decoration in brown ink. Vincenzo Maria Orsini (1649-1730) became pope under the name of Benedict XIII in 1724, voluntarily taking the same name as the antipope elected in 1394 to emphasize the latter's illegitimacy. Inscription on verso by Lezineau, avocat au Parlement, certifying that the present bull is true and original, and sent directly from the Court of Rome on August 10, 1729. Ink faded; tears on some folds.
