His career as a painter began in 1963, at the age of 19, with his first exhibition at the Salon des Artistes Français at the Grand Palais. The Salon des Artistes Français presented a retrospective of his work at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1992. He was appointed official painter of the French Army in 1991, official painter of the French Navy in 2003 and titular painter in 2012.
