ANTONIUCCI VOLTI (1915-1989) Reclining female nude Sanguine Signed lower left: Volti Height: 46.5 cm - Width: 58.5 cm on view We would like to thank Nicolas Antoniucci for kindly confirming the authenticity of this drawing after photographic examination in October 2025, and for providing us with this analysis of the work: Because of the nervousness of the line, we believe it was done by Volti in the 60s, and will most probably retain the framing of that period. He made them quite regularly in this way, with or without marie- louise and gilded wood, in a circular section. Here's a quote from Katia Granoff about Volti's sanguine drawings: "Volti's red chalk drawing, sanguine, is sometimes executed, mainly around the '60s, in a series of hatchings that seem to bring the figures in the drawing out of the fog or rain. The graphic expression would be nervous in nature, rather than soft and luminous as in the sanguines, whose strokes would sometimes have been softened with blur or crushed with the thumb." What's more, the reverse view of a model is a feature of some of Volti's drawings that, in my opinion and at the time, few artists did or even, why not, knew how to do. This choice of viewing angle is therefore a kind of second signature and guarantee of authenticity.
