1920S DRESS, JEANNE LANVIN ENTOURAGE Eggshell-colored evening gown embroidered with transparent and silver beads forming Art Deco motifs. Missing pearls, soiling and wear As is Length 113 cm - Width 56 cm With nightlife on the rise in the '20s, this sleeveless, sheer, beaded evening gown is a perfect example of a fashionable woman's evening dress. Atypical motifs of scrolls and flowers are combined, embroidered on silk, with transparent gray beads forming color variations of their own. Ample and straight, this dress embodies the liberating spirit of feminine fashion. No longer emphasizing the hips, dresses are now loose-fitting, falling to just below the knees. This was inspired by Lanvin, whose floral and geometric motifs were directly inspired by the Art Deco movement, then at the height of its influence. For Lanvin, the combination of black, white and silver pearls was the height of elegance in the 1920s. This dress can be compared to another in the Met Museum, ref. 2009.300.1247, which uses a similar technique of rhinestones on silk, although the motifs are different.
