PIERRE DOUTRELEAU (BORN 1938) The Canal Original canvas Signed lower right: Doutreleau Titled and numbered on labels on reverse of stretcher: C.107 Minor old restorations Height 22 cm - Width 33.5 cm Provenance : Galerie de Paris, 14 Place François Ier Paris Pierre Doutreleau was born in Arles and grew up in the light that dazzled Van Gogh, Cézanne and so many other painters. In 1958, he discovered Nicolas de Staël through his friends Aublet, who helped and encouraged him to exhibit. Hélène Cingria introduced him to Lucile Manguin, who had just opened the Galerie de Paris and took him on under contract in 1964. In 1968, during a visit to the United States, he had a revelation of what was to become the focus of his research: Speed and Movement. A specific approach to painting linked to a passion for movement, life, the wind and the wind of life. Numerous solo exhibitions have made Pierre Doutreleau known the world over, and from Paris to Los-Angeles, Tokyo to Munich or Rio, his works can be found in numerous collections. "What really interests me is painting the wind. In life, everything is movement. And if sometimes my canvases give the impression of fixity, it's because in reality they emanate movement. I paint moments of precise life." (Pierre Doutreleau)
