1983 JAGUAR XJ6 4.2 S.III
Serial number: SAJJAALP4CC347777
French registration
The example we're offering for sale is an S.III sedan first registered on October 26, 1983 in its current Rhodium Silver Metallic configuration, with a striking black leather interior. Comfortable and discreet, this beautiful sedan was scrupulously maintained between 2005 and 2022, as evidenced by the extensive file of invoices tracing its history.
Now in used condition, this XJ could do with a little cosmetic refreshment and is showing the effects of its years, but it can boast a mechanical system that responds promptly both when starting off and over long distances. Our test drive from Tours to Paris bears witness to this.
Sold without a valid roadworthiness test and with 89,000 km on the clock, it's a very good base from which to start restoring the car, or to drive it with no major outlay.
The Jaguar XJ is an iconic luxury sedan launched by Jaguar in 1968. From the outset, it embodied the vision of its founder William Lyons: to offer a car combining British elegance, high performance and refined comfort. The first generations (Series I, II and III) were built on a common base that evolved progressively over more than twenty years, becoming a benchmark among large European sedans.
Series III, produced from 1979 to 1992, represents the culmination of the first great line of XJs.
It retained the technical base of the previous generations, but benefited from a major evolution in design, achieved in collaboration with Pininfarina. The styling has been modernized, with sleeker lines, a higher roofline and improved visibility, while remaining true to the XJ's classic elegance.
Under the hood, the Series III features in-line 6-cylinder engines, as well as the prestigious V12, the symbol of Jaguar's top-of-the-range character. It also boasts enhanced comfort, improved interior finish and more modern equipment for its time. Highly appreciated for its refinement and smooth ride, it became the car of choice for executives and lovers of luxury sedans.
Produced for over a decade, the Series III marked the end of an era before the arrival of the more modern XJs. Today, it is considered one of the most iconic XJs, perfectly embodying the charm and British automotive luxury of the 1980s.
