Undoubtedly the most iconic sports convertible of the 20th century, the MG B roadster is more than a success story, it's a perfect understanding of what customers want: sport - lightness - accessibility - style.
Launched in 1962, the MG "B" model was perfectly in tune with the style of the nascent 1960s: a little curvaceous with taut, responsive lines.
Order books soon filled up, as budding gentleman drivers snapped up MG's promise of "sport on the cheap", allowing owners to take the car to work on the racetrack.
In less than 20 years, almost 600,000 units rolled off the assembly lines at Abingdon Works, and the car was slightly restyled to keep pace with the trends of the passing decades, while retaining the same philosophy. There were also a number of variants, such as the "GT", which took the form of an elegant little fastback coupé, and the rare "V8", which (as its name suggests) featured a V8 engine that propelled the little roadster to its rapidly and dangerously reached limits.
It wasn't until the dawn of the 2000s that the MG B would be beaten in terms of production and sales by a car that mechanically closely resembled it: the Mazda MX5.
The example we present here was first registered in June 1968 and is presented today in a desirable red color combination with a black interior characteristic of British roadsters.
Although the car has a few minor cosmetic flaws, the mechanics have undergone particular care; invoices from 2023 and 2024 show the slight modifications and maintenance carried out: braking, fuel pump, spark plugs and coil, refurbishment of part of the wiring harness.
Our example is a good opportunity to add to a collection or to enter the realm of vintage cars, with its ease of repair and unfailing style. It's the perfect convertible for the summer ahead.
