They are often distinguished by a rather elaborate composition, notably in mahogany and marquetry, adorned with gilded bronze mounts, such as solid satinwood tables adorned with fine inlays.
In his book Les Ébénistes du XVIIIe siècle , Paris, 1953, p. 52, Comte de Salverte mentions a Louis XVI ormolu console in the Mobilier National, as well as a secrétaire à abattant in Mme Demachy's collection at Château d'Ognon.
During the French Revolution, Caumont was elected Justice of the Peace, playing an active role in politics until 1795, when he entrusted his workshop to his son (P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p.169).
