[VENDÉE - OYENHAUSSEN (Leonor d'ALMEIDA, Countess of) - FORESTIER (Henri)].
The War in the Vendée. The 1793 Campaign. London: Printed by W. Spilsbury, 1805. Bradel 8vo, orange half-percale, spine decorated with a title label in blue morocco (early 20th-century binding).

[I (Title)] f. + XIV + 163 pp.
FIRST EDITION, likely published by the Countess of Oyenhaussen (1750–1839), a close friend of the Vendée general Henri Forestier (circa 1775–1806), who was in exile in London.
Bound at the end: • a manuscript titled “Renseignemens divers donnés par M. For-. ” (6 ff.), copied by the Marquis Ernest de Villoutreys (1830–1906) from Savary’s autograph manuscript, which Henri Baguenier-Désormeaux had lent him; • a letter from Henri Baguenier-Désormeaux to the Marquis de Villoutreys (3 pp.), providing bibliophilic information about the work: “[…] I have not yet been able to verify at the National Library National Library whether a copy exists in its collection; until now, I was aware only of my own—yours is the second […]”; • & a postcard from the same sender addressed to the Marquis de Villoutreys (December 13, 1900).
The date “1793” on the title page was cut out, and a false date, “1832,” was added in ink; this was then crossed out so that the original date could finally be restored in ink on a piece of cardboard; the publication date was scraped off and then restored in ink; foxing.
A VERY RARE COPY OF THIS WORK ON THE FIRST CAMPAIGN IN THE VENDÉE.
Lemière, 271. Not listed in Barbier & Brunet.
