LA FONTAINE (Jean de). Contes et nouvelles en vers. A Paris, De l'Imprimerie de P. Didot l'Aîné,1795. 2 volumes in one large in-4°, dark green half-calf, spine ribbed and decorated (early 19th c. binding). A vignette on the title by CHOFFARD and 20 engraved plates (combined in the first volume), sixteen after FRAGONARD and a few others by MALLET, MONNET and TOUZÉ. The figures appear to be before the letter (only the discreet numbers appear). Spine slightly faded, corners dulled. A "beautiful edition" whose illustration remained unfinished (Cohen, 574).
