LONGUS. Les Amours pastorales de Daphnis et de Chloé. [Paris, 1745]. Small in-4° (145 x 197 mm), porphyry calf, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, ornate ribbed spine, gilt edges (period binding). A title-frontispiece by COYPEL, 28 plates engraved by AUDRAN after the Regent Philippe d'ORLÉANS, & a plate called "des petits pieds" after CAYLUS (avant la lettre); vignettes & culs-de-lampe by COCHIN. One of only a few copies in in-4° format. Without the title leaf dated 1745; first spine cracked; some foxing. "Same figures as in the 1718 edition, and on the engraved frontispiece, this date has been omitted. An attempt has been made to pass this reprint off as the original edition by deleting the title dated 1745. But the latter can easily be recognized by the culs-de-lampe by Cochin, engraved for this edition", (Cohen, 652).
