"Wille was the friend, the true friend, not the intimate envy of the easygoing and charming talents of his time. In his collection, many paintings, many drawings, revealed a good deed, attested a service, marked a gratitude, recalled one of those bonds that only death could have broken. From the old bottles of wine that the young man emptied at the Gobelins with old Parrocel, to the morning chocolate Madame Greuze offered the old man, - Wille's years passed in loyal and cordial confraternity with all the celebrities of his time; and it's a pleasure to watch with what affection and sincere admiration affection and sincere admiration the friend Wille has for the friend Greuze, that profound and solid painter, as he calls him Greuze and Wille! the two old friends, the two old hearts united! See them visiting little Greuze's nurse! Greuze trace Wille's fine, benevolent face with his best brushes! and see the two of them perched on a ladder, confessing with their noses to the canvas, the Rubens of the Luxembourg twelve feet above the ground - and eighteenth-century judgments! (Memoirs and diary of Jean Georges Wille, graveur du roi, published from autograph manuscripts in the Imperial Library by Georges du Plessis with preface by Edmond and Jules de Goncourt, Paris, 1857). These works often depict young girls or children, reflect a heightened sensitivity and marked expressions remarkable technical mastery. Their success was not limited to the general public: they also critics, notably Denis Diderot, who praised their psychological truth and and moral beauty. In the same vein, the introduction in 1759 of the Prix de la meilleure tête d'expression by the Comte de Caylus (1692-1765) illustrates the period's taste for this type of painting. Gaillard's pendant engravings of Diana and Callisto, bearing the cabinet letter of Jean-Georges Wille, confirm that the two paintings were in Wille's collection together. The Diane was delivered to Wille in July 1760, as his diary indicates, while Callisto was exhibited at the exhibited at the Salon of 1761 as Tête de nymphe de Diane (n°103), and acquired by Wille before or after this Salon. 52 - ANTONIUCCI VOLTI (1915-1989) Three Graces, circa 1959 Bronze proof with green patina shaded with brown Foundry stamp on base: Cire perdue/Bisceglia. Signed and numbered on the base: 3/6 Height 49 cm - Width 33.5 cm - Depth 10.5 cm Antoniucci Volti developed a recognizable style early on, combining sensuality of form and sobriety of volume. Deeply influenced by ancient sculpture, but also by Rodin and Maillol, Volti's work celebrates the female body, which he treats with an almost meditative gentleness. The bronze sculpture of the Three Graces we are offering for sale fully embodies this ideal of harmony and timeless beauty. Bisceglia Frères was an important art foundry, active between 1904 and 1962. Around 1907, Mario Bisceglia, originally from Turin, set up his own foundry in Paris with two of his brothers, Dominique and César. He moved to Malakoff around 1930. Bisceglia hired Tullio Clementi, then later in 1940, Turriddu, who had completed his apprenticeship at Susse and Valsuani. The foundry only produced pieces less than 1.50 m tall, and was renowned for its particularly meticulous patinas, like that of our Three Graces. Bibliography: E. Lebon, Dictionnaire des fondeurs de bronzes d'art, Ed. Marjon, 2003, pp. 116-118 The numbered 1/6 copy of Les Trois Grâces also cast by Bisceglia Frères, purchased at the Salon des Tuileries in 1959, is now in the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (ref. AMS 1).

10 - FRENCH SCHOOL VERSUS 1630, ENTOURAGE DE JACQUES LINARD Portrait formerly known as Marie-Anne de La Trémoïlle, Princesse des Ursins Canvas Restorations Exceptional gilded wood cassetta frame, 17th-century Bolognese (?) work Height 106 cm - Width 86.5 cm Provenance: Tradition has it that this painting came from the Château de Chanteloup, owned by the Duc de Choiseul. The model, with abundant hair falling over a wide lace collar, is holding a rosary of semi-precious stones: green agate, jade (Guatemala, Burma), turquoise, chrysocolla (mined in Mexico, Peru, Africa; used in jewelry since antiquity). The lace on the collar seems to be of Dutch origin (Delft?), and similar models can be found in the portraits by Jan Michel Van Mierevelt, while the still life of flowers on the table calls for the name of Jacques Linard or Louise Moillon.

11 - ATTRIBUTED TO FRANCESCO MARIA MAZZOLA known as PARMIGIANINO (1503 - 1540) Self-portrait Canvas Old restorations, strip of canvas approx. 2 cm added at top Empire period oak and gilded stucco frame (probably chosen by Vivant-Denon) bearing the name Parmesan and a N°61 Height 27 cm - Width 22.5 cm Provenance : Collection Dominique Vivant Denon (1747 - 1825). Engraved by Valentin with the title: Tiré du cabinet de M. Denon (M. Mussini, Parmigianino tradotto, Cinisello Balsamo [Milano], 2003, pp. 195-96, no. 400). This canvas can be related to two works by Parmesan: the drawing with profile portrait (Vienna, Albertina) and the figure of Saint Joseph in the "Mariage mystique de sainte Catherine" (Louvre, department of paintings). Our painting comes from the prestigious collection that Dominique Vivant Denon (1747-1825), diplomat, archaeologist, artist and first director of the Louvre, meticulously and passionately assembled throughout his life, which included antique sculptures, Italian Renaissance paintings, Egyptian objets d'art, as well as rare engravings and drawings. A great traveler accompanying the imperial armies, he brought back numerous artifacts from his expeditions, notably the Egyptian campaign, which fueled the West's fascination with the Orient. These acquisitions enriched both the collections of the Louvre and his own private collection, and it is through his blend of scientific and aesthetic curiosity that his cabinet illustrates the encyclopedic spirit of his era.

He perfected his style in the 1960s when confronted with Scandinavian nature and the impermanence of its landscapes. Nature was to be his strongest source of inspiration, and his technical signature was the application of paint with a knife and a palette described as "warm" and free. The lyrical abstraction movement emerged in opposition to the geometric abstraction of Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky. Olivier Debré's work came to the attention of French museums in the 1980s. Our work is part of this period, and is similar in smaller dimensions to Ocre blanche d'hiver (1980), acquired by the Centre Pompidou.

He planned to sail around the world at the expense of a group of bibliophiles, to bring back illustrations for a forthcoming book. In his "Presentations", SCHMIED gives us part of his artistic testament: "[typography and illustration] try to be one, according to my sweet mania [...] Print is a constructive material, long studied and skilfully established, and it is inappropriate to decorate it with a crude graphic design [...] Perhaps I will be criticized for the apparent imbalance of my pages? Imbalance: no. Asymmetry: certainly, and I have a taste for it. It has always seemed to me that symmetry reflects a lazy mind that is content to invent only half or even a quarter of a work. Asymmetry requires a more sustained and varied effort [...]". Ex-libris W. Vincens Bouguereau. Cichocka, Gustave Miklos. Un grand œuvre caché, L25 (where some of Miklos's preparatory compositions for this work are reproduced).
